I am sorry to see that Casey has passed. He was the Training NCO of my company, oh so long ago, in East Palmyra. On behalf of all the officers and NCOs of 2/391 of the old 98th Division I will say that we will know that a true professional soldier and caring citizen has passed and that he will be missed by all of us.

Please accept our prayers...prayers for each member of Casey's family who grieve his loss and prayers to Our Holy Father in Heaven...asking that Casey's soul be made pure for his entrance to eternal life in the Heaven which certainly awaits us. He lived a wonderful life, served his God, his family and his country Now he is seeing the fruits of his earthly labor in a place of love and peace.

I used to work as a Pharmacist in Clyde and I absolutely adored when he would come into the store to chat. He was such a kind and gentle soul. Sending much sympathy.

I will never forget Casey's Sunday School lessons at First Church of Christ in South Butler. I sat in awe of a man who was so strong and brave and yet loved God and loved people so tenderly. I remember him moving our little class outside on sunny spring mornings to sit in a circle in the shade and talk about the bible passage or just tell stories about life, stories that have stuck with me to this day. Like the one about his grandmother refusing to eat tulip bulbs during the famine in Holland during WW2, and then finding one morning that he couldn't wake her up and realizing that she had passed away in the night. I have never said "I'm starving hungry" since I heard that story from Casey when I was 12 years old. I have never been starving hungry, ever.
And I remember the stories about the men in prison who he challenged to be be real men who love and serve women instead of abusing them, and challenging guys to armwrestling matches who were half his age and whipping them to earn respect in the jail that he visited every week.
And I remember the brother that he gave me for a year. James C. was one of the lost boys who he reached out to in jail and helped along, and helped find a home for him when he was released from jail. My home. James was part of my family for a full year, the first time he ever had a mom and dad and siblings who loved him and taught him how to work and how to take responsibility for his own actions. James is doing well today, still riding his Harley and still sober, because of Casey and the road that Casey set him on after pulling him out of the ditch that grand theft auto and the Wayne County Jail put him in.
Casey, you were Semper Fi - always faithful to the corps, to your wife, to your daughter and grandson, to the boys and girls who you taught in Sunday School, and to your savior Jesus who you are with for eternity. I look forward to seeing you again when my own journey here on earth comes to an end. We'll take our folding chairs outside and sit under a shade tree again and tell stories and laugh together, and you'll have an even stronger handshake will all of your fingers intact again.
We love you and we miss you.
