Obituary of Kenneth Lewis Prosser

Savannah: Passed away on Friday, September 10, 2010. Born June 16, 1922 in Savannah, he was the son of William and Maude Dunham Prosser. Ken attended Savannah High School. He worked on area muck farms prior to being inducted into the Army in 1942. Ken was discharged in October 1945, and saw action in the European Theater of operations and was attached to Company “K” of the 109th Infantry Division where he was a Staff Sergeant. Ken saw combat in Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland. His military awards include a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Europe-Africa-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 battle stars, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge. He was wounded in Germany on November 11, 1944. Ken loved all “Big Band”, Country and Western Music from Nashville, as well as Christian Music; all of which was part of his extensive music collection. He enjoyed his garden, canning tomatoes and making pickles. Following his discharge from the Army, he worked for a while as a rural letter carrier and eventually went to Seneca Falls Machine, retiring on May 26, 1978. Ken is the last survivor of 9 children. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Paula; sister-in-law Betty Cotton; many nieces and nephews from Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, Indiana, Florida, Savannah, Clyde, Weedsport and Auburn; as well as many very close friends and neighbors; and his closest friend of all, his dog Mocha. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, 11-2 p.m. from the COLVIN-NORTON FUNERAL HOME, 13081 West Church Street in Savannah where his funeral service will be held immediately following. Interment with Military Honors will be held at the Crusoe Cemetery. Donations in memory of Ken may be directed to either the Savannah Ambulance Fund, Savannah, NY 13146; or to the Lighthouse Community Church, South Butler, NY 13154.
