I recently heard of Jim's passing and wanted to pass along my condolences to Paula and her family. I am so sorry for your loss..
I was stationed with Jim and Paula in Germany from 1977 until 1978 when I left active duty.
Jim was a great guy and close friend and even though we lost touch over the years I thought of him and Paula often. He had a great sense of humor and made my day with some of his antics and sayings...

I remeber a long time ago. When my dad was in the service. He come up to NY on leave and we went to church. And I saw my husband I told my dad I am going to marry him.And my dad said nope your going to marry someone else. Then when I did marry him my dad says yup you were right.I never to my dad I told you so.I never wanted to.I love you so much dad.And that will never change. That poem I put in here has helped me out. I hope it will help out others too.Dad would have wanted everyone to read it. He loved the world. So when the sunshines on your face think of him... He is there all the time.

I'M Free
Dont grieve for me now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me
I took hishand when I heard him call
I could not stay another day
To laugh,to love,to work or play
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found peace of close of day
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared,a laugh,a kiss
Ah,yes these things I too will miss
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tommrow
My life's been full,I've savored much
Good friends,good times,loved one's touch
Pehaps my time seemed all to brief
Dont lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your heart's and share with me
God wanted me now:He set me free.

Jim Pickard was truely a great man!He was my best friend. He was a friend to many folks young & old, he never judged anyone, he loved unconditionally & helped anyone who needed it even if he didn't know them never spoke an unkind word & only swore once in the 13yrs I knew him & thats because he was driving 90 on a 4 lane highway & the guy cut him off & made him miss his turn! he did apoligize for his outburst because he was always a true gentleman. He taught me patience & tolerence, to improvise, overcome & adapt, to help others and be forgiving. He was a good provider to family & friends. Always cheerful, willing & able to do what was asked of him. he loved life!Loved his family & spending time w/ them. He loved the lord & served him whole heartly. He enjoyed all of his co-workers no matter where he worked & spoke of them so often that even though I never met most I feel like I already know most of them!He was a mentor to my children & a great role model & he has helped shape & mold them into 2 very wonderful individuals, thank-you Jim!

Jim, a great man that taught and shared with me soo much that he was like a father to me, and pretty much raised me as his own. I've know him for sooo long ever since i was little kid in fact and it was just so shocking on how fast and short life really is. Me and Jim shared sooo many memories from fishing to canoeing to traveling to just sitting around shootin the shit eatting pizza and hanging out being the bestest of friends. He had taught me to be a fine young man and to acheive dreams and reach beyond my goals. There was nothing he wouldnt do for anyone even if he knew you or not. To be honest he would of gave the shirt off his back. Theres just sooo many great memories shared and will never ever be forgotten. Its a terrible time for all and everyone that knew jim, and his family will be in thoughts and prayers. Jim, you will be greatly missed your friend always and forever, -Dill

I had the pleasure of training Jim as a carrier when he first came into the post office. As it turned out, he was better suited for his job as truck driver. I, nor he, ever forgot those training days and Jim was always there to greet me with a big enthusiastic hello. I will truly miss his upbeat cheer and his presence in my everyday life. Please accept my sincere condolences and prayers. John

I knew Jim from when he used to work at FLDDSO, at Cobblestone Terrace Home 107. He used to come over to the Tymeson building during the day and work with me in my classroom there. I was shocked and saddened to read of his passing in today's newspaper. I really enjoyed working with Jim. He was just a real good guy to work with. He was very easy-going and accepting of whatever the situation was. We had a lot of good times, with a lot of outings and a lot of hikes. He was very capable and conscientious in carrying out his duties. He had a good sense of humor. I have a lot of good memories of Jim and our group's various outings and activities. Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Jim. I will keep Jim and your family in my prayers.
