Obituary of Francis Edward "Ted" Powley Jr.

Sodus: Age 67, passed away on Wednesday, May 13th at Rochester General Hospital with his loving family at his side. Ted is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Marilyn; his children John (Nicole) Powley, Jennifer (Whit) Sprague, Jeremy Powley, Jason (Erin) Powley; grandchildren Joe, Matt, Emma, and Abby Sprague, Marissa, Morgan, and Reese Powley; his mother Theda (Roger) Millis; siblings Tom Powley, Penny (David) Nice, Tim (Melisa) Powley, and Patrice (Chris) Birner; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Ted was predeceased by his father Francis Edward Powley Sr., and by his brother Todd.
Ted was born in Medina, and grew up living on a Dairy Farm. He had a keen sense of appreciation for farm life, and stayed involved in the family farming operation. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Buffalo, and his Master’s Degree from Canisius College. Ted was a 40 year employee of Mizkan Americas and their predecessors. He was Plant Manager at the Sodus and the Lyndonville facilities. He was a former Mayor for the Village of Sodus, member and past President of the Lyndonville Board of Education, member of the Lyndonville Lions Club, and member of the Jaycees in Medina. Following his retirement from Mizkan he worked for the Water Department in Sodus. Active in the Masonic Fraternity he belonged to Yates Lodge #675 F.& A.M. in the Niagara-Orleans District where he was Master of the Lodge in 1982 and in 1988. He became Master of Sodus Lodge #392 in 1999, Lodge Secretary from 2001-2004, District Deputy Grand Master for Wayne District from 2002-2004, Lodge Secretary from 2007-2015, Staff Officer Wayne District from 2008-2010, and Grand Director of Ceremonies Wayne District from 2012-2014. Ted enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Sodus Point, and he was involved with his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.
Visitation will be held on Monday May 18th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 45 West Main Street in Sodus. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. Ted’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, interment will be 3 p.m. at the West Ridgeway Cemetery in Orleans County. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to the Masonic Brotherhood Fund c/o Grand Lodge of the State of New York, 71 West 23rd Street, New York, NY 10010 and indicate for youth scholarships, or to the Humane Society of Wayne County, 1475 County House Road, Lyons, NY 14489.
