Mrs. Helen L. (Bogue) Crayton of Peabody, MA, died early Tuesday morning, October 7, 2008 at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem, MA. She was 91 years old.
Helen was born August 7, 1917 in Rochester, daughter to the late George G. Bogue and Isabella (Young) Bogue and lived most of her life in the Rochester, area. She and her late husband wintered in Florida until becoming full-time residents in 1998. They moved to the retirement community at Brooksby Village in Peabody, Mass, in April of 2005.
Mrs. Crayton was raised in Rochester, where she graduated from East High School. She was a member of Irondequoit United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Rochester. An active and longtime volunteer with the Girls Scouts, Helen served as a troop leader and a neighborhood chairman. She was involved in the Parent Teacher Association and enjoyed helping with the plays. She played in the golf league at Latta Lea in Rochester and proudly bowled a top score of 219 in her bowling league. In her working years, she held positions at Eastman Kodak Company and in the St. Mary’s Hospital Billing Department. While living in Clearwater, FL, she was very active in the Serendipity ROC. Helen along with her late husband, Wilford, enjoyed entertaining both friends and her dearly loved family.
Helen was the beloved wife of the late Wilford H. Crayton with whom she shared 69 years of marriage. She leaves two daughters, Jean C. Simes and her husband, James of East Moriches, NY and Carolyn C. McVoy and her husband, Robert of Georgetown; five grandchildren, William Simes and his wife, Michelle of Huntington Beach, CA, Laurie Simes of New York City, Heather Abourjaily and her husband, Paul of N. Andover, MA, Jennifer Jackson and her husband, Blake of Marblehead, and Robert McVoy, Jr. of Melrose, MA; two great-granddaughters, Ella and Greta Abourjaily; many nieces and nephews. Dear sister of Margaret Allen of Rochester, Robert J. Bogue and his wife, Antoinette of Fort Myers, FL, and the late George Bogue and Evelyn Ascroft. Sister-in-law of Ruth Crayton of West Henrietta, Milda Crayton of Clifton Springs,and Jeanette Borton of Bradenton, FL.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on. Thursday October 23rd at the Sodus Rural Cemetery. Arrangements by the Norton Funeral Home of Sodus
