Obituary of Corbin "Barry" LaVoy

Montezuma: Corbin “Barry” LaVoy passed away on Saturday August 23, 2014. Originally from Tupper Lake, NY. A veteran, Barry served in the Navy, then later in the National Guard. Until retirement Barry was a driver for Stott & Davis Motor Co. He was the founder of the All County ATV Club. Barry was a member of the Savannah Family of God Church and the Montezuma Fire Department for 32 years. On his application for the fire department he put the reason for joining was to help people. He dedicated his life to those in need, was always willing to lend a hand and bring a smile to any frowned face. His legacy is his generosity and willingness to open his heart and home to so many people. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and will always have a place in our hearts.
Barry was predeceased by his father Corbin H LaVoy, mother Ruby LaVoy Gilson, sister Gladys LaVoy, and by his daughter Laurie LaVoy. He is survived by his loving wife Janet LaVoy, of Montezuma; daughters Gail (Melvin) Beebe of Fulton, Annette LaVoy of Auburn; sons Dan (Tammy) Carey of Savannah, Andrew Carey of Atlantic Beach, Fl, and Jim (Nancy) Carey of Port Byron; his granddaughters Amanda Crane, Melissa Pennington, and Michelle Smolinski; grandsons Brian Carey, David Carey, Justin Beebe, Derrick LaVoy, Michael LaVoy, Nicholas LaVoy; his stepmother Hazel Richards; his Sisters Patti (David) Stott of Bridgeport, Sharon Wason of Graham, NC; his brothers William (Peggy) Gilson of Tupper Lake, Lee LaVoy of Ballston Spa, Corbin H. Lavoy of Umatilla, Fl, Dale Jones of Ballston Spa, and Darryl LaVoy; in-laws Joyce (Jack) Stowell of Savannah, and Ambrose Jackson of Seneca Falls; many nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren; and his “adopted” neighborhood children.
Visitation will be Monday from 7-9 p.m., and Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 13081 West Church Street in Savannah. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Savannah Family of God Church, 13165 East Church Street in Savannah. Interment will be at the Butler-Savannah Cemetery on Route 89.
