Obituary of Russell A. Smith

Savannah: Age 65, Passed away unexpectedly on Thursday June 12, 2014. Russ was born in Auburn, NY the son of Floyd Russell and Esther Smith. Russ worked at many places but his main employment was with Conrail, Jackson Farms, and was currently with Fowler Farms in Wolcott, NY. Russ was a quiet man and kept to himself but he was known and loved by a large circle of friends. He was a kind man and loved his job. His hobbies were going to the Savannah corner store buying a newspaper and reading it from front to back. Russ was an avid Miami Dolphins fan. His addiction to apples led him to his job at Fowler’s Farms; his family said Russ’s business card was a bag of apples. Russ is survived by his son Russell A. Smith Jr. of Clyde and daughter Vicky Hess; grandson Dylan Hess of Clyde; sisters Lucille (Melvin) Stickles of Clyde, Nancy (Charlie) Decker of Cayuga, and brother-in-law Ronnie McCool of Savannah; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great great nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his extended family Mike and Kim Larsen and their children of Savannah. Russ is predeceased by his parent’s Floyd and Esther Smith; sisters Susan Smith, Janet McCool, Carol Taylor and brothers Robert Smith and Fred Smith. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday June 19th, from 3-7 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 13081 West Church Street, Savannah. A Funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visitation.
