We just learned about Wes's passing. It was a pleasure working with him during the eleven years I worked at the SCSD. He always willing to help others and he was so knowledgeable about so many things. We truly enjoyed all the things we did together.

My condolences to Corky and the family. I met Wes when I was hired as assistant principal and worked with him for several years before his retirement. Wes helped me get to know the community, was easy to work with, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Wes was honorable and principled which was indispensable to me as a new comer to the community.

I just told a story about Wes at my retirement speech last June. He hired me in August, 1993. I only have fond memories of him, and how easy it was to work for him. He gave me my start, and it was a pleasure to call him my boss.

Wes was a huge personality for the Town of Sodus. Always humble, intelligent, engaging, supportive, creative, and he was forever giving back to the Community he so loved and raised his family in. He was my Physics Teacher in High School. My friends and I always enjoyed his creative and engaging teaching style. We learned so much from him about physics and life in general. We would stay after for extra activities in Physics, not so much on account that we needed extra help, rather because we learned so much from him and it was simply fun. When I went to college I had to take physics - same curriculum as Wes's - we just had more expensive equipment to do experiments with instead of Wes's simpler tools like fish tanks etc. He was one of my early mentors in life and one of my favorite life's stories. I was late to one of these extra credit classes one afternoon. I had a cross country flying lesson before then with Vernon Tyrrell out at the Williamson airport (I was 17 at the time). We were in a Piper Colt (tiny plane), and stuck in Niagara Falls behind a Navy P3 Orion - a huge 4 engine sub hunter doing its run up. When I arrived in class about 45 min late he looked at me and said "Fratangelo, why are you late??" My friends were cracking up, they knew why, and I was other wise embarassed to tell anyone I was flying..... I told him I had another lesson that ran long sorry.. He said "What? with who this time of day?" My friends were laughing harder.... Uh with Mr. Tyrrell.... He said "Who??? I don't know a teacher here with that name...." Uh.... he is my flight instructor... "Your flight instructor?" "You are learning how to fly an airplane???" Uh, yes.. "Come into my office!" Thinking I was really in for it... "Tell me about this! I have always wanted to learn how to fly but didn't think I could afford it! " I said what Bob Diver Sr. said to me; Well, you're working here, I work at Ray's Mobil.... The rest was history. Wes joined the Williamson Flying Club, obtained his pilots license. Was the WFC Secretary for years, helped the airport along with Jack Fuller to gain reliever airport status putting the WFC on track to obtain Millions in Federal FAA Grants under the AIP program that included a new runway, taxiway, hangars; he ran the pancake breakfasts cooking details for years - in fact he helped out last year mentoring his replacement. What a huge hearted, intelligent man. Great Father, Husband, Grandfather, Stahlwart of the Town of Sodus, and it was my honor to call him friend. He will be sorely missed. Our prayers for Korky and family. The world truly is a better place for the time we had with him. Blue Skies Wes.... All the best. Bob & Deb Fratangelo.
