Obituary of Lionel Richard Betts

Wolcott: Lionel R. Betts, 86 passed away on March 17, 2011 after a short illness. Burial with military honors will be on April 2nd, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Huron Evergreen Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service on April 16th, 2011 11 a.m. at North Rose Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Wolcott American Legion, Wolcott VFW, Wolcott Ambulance or the North Rose United Methodist Church.
Lionel (Dick) was born in Wolcott on April 2, 1924, son of Ellen and Arthur Betts. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a self employed contractor. He served in the Army during the Second World War, with the 61st brigade in the medical balliation and participated in the Normandy invasion on D day. He retired from the Army Reserves in 1984 with the rank of first sergeant. He was member of the American Legion, VFW and the North Rose United Methodist Church.
Dick is survived by ex-wife Marjorie, children; Gary (Susan) Betts of Canastota, Dennis (Mary Anne) Betts of Clyde, David (Tab) Betts of Wolcott, Dawn (Robert) Hetzke of Clyde, Charles Betts of Rose, Cheryl Harris and Kathryn Betts of Newark, Brother Fred (Irene) Betts of Florida, 9 Grandchildren; David Jr, Todd, Crystal, Joshua (Kate), Justin (Andrea), Amy, Holly, Jason, Nicole and 6 great randchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, siblings Robert, Thelma, Verna, Leah and Irene, sons John and Robert Betts, grandson Roger Paul Rice, Jr. and son-in-law Roger Rice. Arr: Norton Funeral Home.
