A Letter to Jack:
Jack,
You were an integral part of the neighborhood and you greeted everyone with a smile and a wave and sometimes a chat. Remembering the days where you would open your garage and have the guys Frank and my father in law, Dave over for a visit. You guys were always so bonded and spent hours talking as the sun set. Other times, you were all upset with each other for one thing or other and then the next day or so, shrug it off and then the garage door opened up again. The times when you were outside, you greeted all of your neighbors and even carried dog treats in your pockets for the neighborhood dogs that walked by your house with their guardian/dog parent. The dogs of all sizes and ages really warmed up to you and of course this always put the biggest smiles on the faces of guardians/dog parents for your gesture, it made our day. One of the better memories was when you installed a park bench in your front yard. This really brought neighbors to take a break from their walk for a sit and chat. You were charismatic, social and introduced neighbors to each other who may have never met under any other circumstances had you not made the introduction. I also remember all of the times that you would pass out candy for the kiddos on Halloween as you had the best spot and best candies. The great thing about you Jack was that you were a come as you are neighbor and even though we all had different view points you accepted everyone.
You carried a huge sense of pride in home ownership and made it look easy while most of us failed. You took so much care into keeping your home and garage neat and getting your trees trimmed, grass mowed and driveway cleared of debris. You were so proud of your home and it showed because it was always beautiful and well maintained.
Independence is what you humbly flaunted as you were everywhere while in your wheelchair. In the years past, you showed versatility as you were able to drive with your wheelchair in tow, ride the VIA bus or use your chair distances from your home and encouraged others with your mobility. You were active in the community and in the VA and other arenas that we may never know.
These are descriptions from a popular neighborhood app: “Relevant news and information from neighbors, businesses and public agencies in real time; The only way to instantly connect to the people, businesses and happenings near your home; A secure environment where all neighbors are verified”. However, you were the OG to all things neighborly and any neighbor who would read this description would chuckle or smile and say, yeah, that’s Jack.
If I can say Jack of all Trades or Jack of Knowing as you were all about the latest technologies for home security or the time where your were a volunteer for a local meteorologist and had a rain gauge put in your yard. You would get the buzz going on how much rain we received. And then all of the neighbors got to talking and quoting you; "Jack said we got (insert inches of) rain last night." Your recordings were always an emphatic “right” (even if another local channel stated a different recording). If there was a way to reduce waste or conserve, you were on it. You got a new toilet installed that uses less water and again, got neighbors talking about switching up their toilets. Often times, neighbors would start sentences with: “Jack said”, "Jack got”, “Jack heard”, “Jack did”; let’s just say, that you were a very influential neighbor.
We are sadden by your passing and we will miss you, especially Dave as you were his longtime good friend and neighbor. We offer our deepest condolences to your son, family and your Timber Ridge family.

Jim, One of my inspirations to become a police officer was Jack. Growing up in a small town in the 60’s and 70’s everybody knew each other and we looked up to Jack and respected him and what he stood for. As a youngin and a teenager Jack was as good as it gets. He knew that going by the Spirit of the law and not the letter of the law would get the best results. Plus he knew what my father and other fathers would do when we got home and Jack was good with that. Jim my sincere condolences to you and your entire family. Jack was one of the good guys.

I remember Jack from my youth and over the last few years we have exchange emails and stories of our youth . We discovered that we had Common Friends together. One of those Friends was Joey Nealon.Jack had lost contact with him and asked if I knew where he was and how he was doing.. I had to break the news that Joe had passed in the late 70's . Jack had no idea. They had been in The Service of their Country and met up in Viet Nam for a few moments ,for a few days... Joe was on a high risk top security mission and was unable to disclose about the mission.. I will always remember my Friend Jack and cherish the conversations we shared..
May He Rest in Eternal Peace.
My Deepest condolences to Jack's Family and Friends. He'll be missed.
