To the Nihoff family,
Tim was an unwavering support of my work at Gem Gallery. He generously offered his creative input and talents during the three years we worked together at the gallery, creating invitations, business cards, open studio posters, and of course, showing his work. His art delighted all who visited. Tim's boundless, child-like curiosity fed his creativity at every step. He found beauty in the overlooked, the mundane, the forgotten. He transformed his chosen material--mud, metal, wood, cork, dollar bills, feathers, shells, wire--as well as the viewer's relationship to those things. Nature fueled and infused his work. An islander at heart, he lived by his own rules, his own inspiration. He explored every turn, every beach, every stone on Peaks with the freshness of a first encounter. He gave the world the gift of his gentle spirit and singular artistic vision, which live on in the homes and hearts of everyone who had the good fortune of knowing him.

I am so sorry and heartbroken over the loss of Tim. We worked together at Big Blue Dot and became fast friends. I used to peer into his cubby to see what he was working on, he was often humble and would say, "it's nothing" and show me a few designs/drawings, my eyes would pop with joy, it always left me so inspired.
Tim never forgot a birthday or anniversary, such a thoughtful and gentle soul with a tremendous gift. I wish he was able to bring all the light he created for others to himself.
May he be at peace. Wishing his family peace as well, sorry he left so soon.

I'm so sad to hear that we lost his beautiful light. Tim was a fabulous creative spirit and such a caring soul. My heart aches. I have one of his dollar bill pieces and it is a treasure. My condolences to his family.

I'm staggered by the news of Tim passing away, but that should not surprise me. Tim's talent, sense of humor, ingenuity, competitiveness and ability to make someone feel better about themselves than they had any right to (at least in my case), were all staggering to me. Although Tim and I were in contact with each other for what now feels like a shamefully short amount of time, I consider him (and, of course, his dear brother) to have been among the very few I would call lifelong friends. The memories I have of time spent with, indeed, the entire Nihoff family that I knew, are stronger and more meaningful to me than I have ever let them know. I should feel some regret; but I know Tim wouldn't have it.
I can see him standing over his drafting table, scribbling away as if he knew what he was doing drawing stuff in a way that I never will. I can see in my mind sketches he'd done years and years ago even before his name got the word Studio appended to it. I can see him angrily (?) charging after an inconsiderate base runner at Red Creek who'd cut him off trying to field a ground ball but getting hold of himself almost immediately. I have nothing of his, no pictures, no dollar bills; I haven't seen him in years and years. But I can see him.
Tim, I am grateful for the time we had as friends. If you were suffering, I am glad it has passed. Rest well.

Such a huge loss to earth and a huge gain to Heaven. Tim was so humorous and creative. His art work was always a highlight to the alumni art show and he was modest about his abilities. I worked with Tim at Big Blue Dot. It has been a long time since I have seen Tim but, as Maya Angelou said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Tim always had a way of making me feel welcome as a freelancer and I have always appreciated his open and creative heart and spirit. I feel so deeply saddened that Tim is no longer in this world and way too soon. I send condolences to his family and friends and wish only that your beautiful memories of Tim will bring you strength and connection while you feel this profound loss.

Rob, Deb, Corey, and Family,
My deepest condolences on your loss. I worked with Tim for many years at BBD and later played with him on the island doing Halloween, Sacred and Profane and other projects. I will miss him terribly.
I would say rest in peace but knowing Tim, where ever he is he is probably busy creating amazing stuff.

Deb, Rob, Corey and family, I am thinking of you all. I am glad to have been a part of Tim's life, including being a part of his family life. I will always remember the Christmas at your parent's house when we got Scout. Those were such happy times. I am thinking about the fun and laughs Tim and I had, the amazing trips we took and how his talent awed me. He was a brilliant creative soul.
