Jim was such a great guy; funny, thoughtful, caring, and decent. I played in a band with him when he was a senior in HS and I was a sophomore. I had only just learned to play guitar, and so to play with HIM was so awesome. I really learned so much from him then: about listening, following, leading, beginnings, endings. The details of group performance. He was a smoking bass player, could read music (unlike most), could play many different styles (rock, jazz, etc.), improvise, and really add emotion to whatever he was playing: joy, aggression, etc.
Decades later, Jim was so caring when I needed help with medicines for my parents. The same Jim: professional, thoughtful, and caring.
I am so sorry for his family, Lisa and Kate. I pray that the joyful memories they must have of the years with Jim can sustain them through this very difficult time, as if it hasn’t been difficult already. This world is better place because of Jim Ball, and all the people’s lives he touched, and I know he will be remembered and missed by all of them.

Jim-amazing and kind, smart and talented, honest and he had a sense of humor that would sneak up and shock you. He was the epitome of a true friend. He was always good to me, nice and fun/funny. Always was he willing to lend a hand, an ear or support. It's unfair that he had to endure this trauma and pain for all that he has done for the community and the many people in his life when he gave and cared so much. I am grateful he was in my life, shared his beautiful family with me for years and gave me a job and made it fun when I needed to get away. Thank you JIm and please give strength to dear Lisa and dear Kate they will miss you so much. My tears fall and my heart hurts for all three of you. My love to you all and to you Jim- thank you for making my life richer and happier.

I knew Jim in Albany in the late 70's when we were in a couple of bands together. In our wild punk band days, he was always the sensible one and a quietly hilarious guy with a dry, sly sense of humor. He had a gentleness about him, yet could play a rock-solid bass line with a ferocity I've seldom seen matched.
This news breaks my heart. My deepest condolences,
- Sara Ayers

They don't make men as tough as my Uncle Jim!! I could never thank him enough for all he has done for me. He had no faults, or enemies. He was rock solid and to the point. A great outdoorsman and musician. As a pharmacist he was liked and respected by the community. His loss just isn't ours, it's a whole community. I Love you Jim, and I miss you dearly. All four of you are reunited now, and in peace. Thank you Jim for being the man and uncle you were, I love you.

So sorry for your loss. Jim was always kind and friendly.l remember when he opened the pharmacy on Christmas Day to fill my infant daughters ear infection medication. He did not have to do that. But that was Jim's way of supporting the people of his community. Thank you for your generosity and kindness. You will be missed.4

Words simply cannot express how sorry I am for the loss of your loved one. Having known Jim from the time he was a toddler, I will remember him always as the little boy that his sister and I baby sat for when his parents went out for the evening. It was always a pleasure to visit and reminisce with him at CVS when I was home on vacation. He will be missed. Favorable tailwinds, Jim...seeya on the flip side. God bless.

My heart is aching for you and your daughter and the fact that now we all have to say goodbye to a wonderful guy. When I think of Jimmy, I picture him from high school, since I didn't have too much interaction with him after because I lived so far away. But every time I think about him, it brings a smile to my face with all the memories I have growing up with him. Even after years of being apart, I know one thing...Jimmy worshipped his family. He was a man filled with love and compassion and always had such a tender heart. It is with weaping eyes that I send you my deepest sympathies for your family. You have had one tumultuous year and a half and if I have learned anything from watching you these past months, it is that the Ball Family Members are true fighters with undying love for one another.
Wish I could be there to say goodbye to my beloved old friend. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you both. Love and lots of Hugs and Smoochies!
