Obituary of Michael C. Mahaney Jr.

Sodus/Rochester: November 23, 2011 at age 65 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his mother, Rosemary Mahaney; his wife of 31 years, Kay Embrey; his and Kay's children: Megan Mahaney, Mick (Gretchen) Wood, Leanne (Denis) Charlesworth, Manes Lazarre; grandchildren: Madison Mayo, Finian and Simone Wood, Ella and Luke Charlesworth, Markis and Lee'asia Lazarre; sisters and brothers: Wade (Nadine Moulton) Mahaney, Maureen (Terry) Dunning, Tim (Leigh) Mahaney, Kathy (Jay) Miraglia, John (Kathie) Mahaney; nieces and nephews: Joelle (Mark), Tanya (Aaron), Heather, Aline, Crystal, Colleen, Patrick, Mike, Angelia; cousins and close friends. Born in Rochester, Mike moved to Sodus in 1978. He was a math teacher, soccer coach and administrator at Sodus Central School for 33 years where he was committed to always doing “what's best for the kids”. He was an athlete his entire life playing hockey until age 60 at Lakeshore and later ESL, scoring two goals in his last game. He had a passion for soccer which he has passed down to his children and grandchildren. Mike was a member of Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club and Rochester’s Band of Rebels. He “beat the odds” for 6 1/2 years and enjoyed every day to the fullest while living with cancer. Mickey’s greatest pleasures were spending time with his large family, being PopPop to his grandchildren, sitting on the porch at Sodus Bay, and visiting Mexico each February. The family would like to thank Dr. Timothy Quill and Isaiah House for their care. Friends are invited to call at Norton Funeral Home, 45 West Main Street, Sodus, Tuesday, November 29th from 4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 4th at 2:30 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church, 220 Winton Road South, Rochester.
