Obituary of Eric N. Donselaar

Wolcott: Age 65, passed away on Sunday December 11, 2011, at home surrounded by his loving family. Eric is survived by his wife of 41 years, Donna; daughter Rhonda (Paul) Carner; son Ryan Donselaar (Kimberly Wintamute); grandson Nolan; 1 nephew and 3 nieces. He was predeceased by parents Ray and Rebecca Donselaar, step-mother Eleanor, and his sister Rita Jackson. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Eric served in the Navy from 1965 to 1969. He served first on the USS Constellation (CV-64), and later on the USS Forrestal (CV-59). His military awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. Eric entered service with the New York State Police in 1972. His law enforcement career spanned 31 years in Troops “D” and “E”, with the majority of that time stationed at SP Wolcott. He later became a well respected K-9 handler. Eric retired from the State Police in 2003. Visitation will be held on Friday December 16th, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 5925 New Hartford Street in Wolcott. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Savannah Congregational Church, 1592 North Main Street in Savannah. Interment with Military and Police Honors will be at the Butler-Savannah Cemetery on Rt. 89 in South Butler. Contributions in memory of Eric are requested in lieu of flowers, and should be directed to the Savannah Congregational Church.
